Australian Safari is an Interactive Learning Experience commissioned by the NC State College of Sciences.
The application engages students in an augmented reality scavenger hunt. Helpful Clues leads students to 6 Real World locations around campus; each of which hosts a unique Australian animal. Walking within range of these location triggers a sound effect followed by educational videos about the corresponding animal. From a technical standpoint, this was accomplished by using Bluetooth Beacon technology. At each of the six locations a Bluetooth Beacon that constantly admits a low energy signal was installed. The app is designed to receive these signals and trigger the corresponding animal events.
